the talk

Crafting Worlds Beyond Belief

LANGUAGE: ENGLISH

How does cinematic design language translate across screens, experiences, and everything in between? Drawing from projects spanning Emmy-winning main titles like Godfather of Harlem, HBO's Westworld marketing campaign, and the global immersive experience Harry Potter: Visions of Magic, Mason Nicoll reveals how Digital Kitchen crafts worlds that captivate audiences across every medium. Through behind-the-scenes stories—from using vintage radioactive lenses to create ghostly refractive qualities, to developing After Effects techniques that replicate paint-on-glass animation—this talk explores the balance between handmade craft and technological innovation. As the creative industry navigates AI, automation, and new tools, Digital Kitchen's three-decade journey demonstrates how consistent creative vision, editorial sensibility, and narrative thinking translate seamlessly from title sequences to experiential installations, proving that great storytelling transcends medium when rooted in authentic craft and emotional connection.
