& Creative Facilitator

the speaker

Clive K. Lavery is an independent Design Lead, Creative Facilitator, and Public Speaker based in Berlin. Over 15+ years, he's helped organizations like 3M, Adobe, Publicis, and Zalando turn complex digital products and services into delightful, user-centered experiences. As a Mental Health First Aider, Clive is particularly passionate about mental health and neurodivergence in the design and tech space, working to help individual contributors, leaders, and teams thrive as full-stack human beings in an industry prone to burnout, anxiety, and depression. Active in the European UX scene, he co-organized UXcamp Europe, launched Friends of Figma Berlin, and mentors designers. Clive has never won a design award, but Jakob Nielsen once liked one of his LinkedIn posts.

the talk

The 7 Habits of Highly Depressive Designers (and what you can do about it)

LANGUAGE: ENGLISH

As designers, we pride ourselves on being human-centered, empathetic, and values-driven. Yet beneath the shiny surface, design and tech remain hotbeds of burnout, anxiety, and depression. Drawing on 15+ years in UX and lived experience with depression, Clive shares hard-won learnings and recurring patterns he's observed—both in himself and through countless conversations with industry peers. It's an honest, sometimes uncomfortable look at how our behaviors, systems, and environments burn us out faster than new AI models get released. With therapy-inspired insights and self-deprecating humor, Clive offers his perspective on navigating your design career without breaking your brain. Content note: discusses depression and suicidal thoughts; may be emotionally challenging.
